Frequently asked questions
Can I change plans at any time?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time from your billing settings. Changes take effect immediately, and we prorate any differences.
What counts as an AI call?
One call is any action that runs AI: protocol generation, refine, simulate, risk scoring, the AI assistant, AI Improve in the designer, image QC, the standards finder, and file or paper analysis. Explorer (free) gets 5 AI calls per month on Olto AI, Researcher 200 and Lab 2,000 on the advanced AI Pro tier, and Enterprise is unlimited on AI Max. Calls reset monthly. Viewing or manually editing protocols does not count.
How is my data secured?
Your statistics and notebook Python run client-side, so raw data can stay in your browser. Everything else is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256), with row-level data isolation per researcher and a SHA-256 audit log. We are not SOC 2 or HIPAA certified and do not claim to be; see the security page for exactly what we do (and don't) claim.
Do you offer discounts for academic institutions?
Yes. We offer academic pricing for verified institutions on Researcher and Lab plans. Email academic@oltodiscovery.com from your institutional address and we'll set you up.
What is the AI research assistant?
A tool-using assistant that can search your own protocols, papers, and inventory and run a statistical test, then answer your question grounded in that data, with citations and an audit trail. It works within a conversation thread (it does not carry memory across separate conversations), and every output is a starting point you review and sign off on, not a finished result.
